At first, Sarah dismissed it as merely the settling of the ancient wooden beams. But the noises grew louder and more frequent with each passing evening. Scratch...scratch...scratch... The skittering sounds would come from all around her bedroom - first from one wall, then another, then the ceiling above. Sarah would lie awake, covers pulled tightly around her, trying to pinpoint the origin of the unsettling noises. Her heart would pound in her ears as her mind raced with dreadful possibilities. Rats in the walls, she tried to rationalize. Just rodents scurrying about, nothing more. But the sounds seemed too deliberate, too purposeful to be mere rats foraging. It was almost as if something was trying to work its way through the wooden slats, clawing mercilessly to get inside. One brutally hot summer night, Sarah awoke to the unmistakable sounds of splintering wood. Petrified, she watched in horror as a panel in her closet began to buckle and crack outward. Elongated black appendages seeped through the fractures, followed by rows of wriggling legs and a disgustingly misshapen body. It came scrabbling out of the wall, an ungodly hybrid of insect and arachnid, its multi-faceted eyes glittering with primal hunger. The grotesque creature opened a circular maw of serrated mandibles, emitting a deafening screech. Sarah's terrified screams pierced the night as the abomination lurched across the floor towards her bed, a nightmarish hell-spawn of indescribable ferocity...")
